"No trip to Las Vegas would be complete without a visit to the Silverline room. Alan Yun is an audio legend in the making. Just give him sometime, you'll see what I mean..... Alan is a gregarious soul full of fun and anecdotes. His outward nature allows him the safety of being sincere and saying exactly what's on his mind; it's his form of contagious enthusiasm. As a result of Alan's disarmingly honest social qualities, one tends to feel at ease with him while knowing that there is no need to play verbal games. When with Alan, say what you mean, but be gracious in doing so. Alan's speakers are like that. They have a bold sound that's strong in the midrange. His speakers are as direct in what they tell you as Alan is. For whatever reason, he is able to obtain from his designs brilliant dynamic qualities at every end of the spectrum ... including the middle. The first time I heard the old SR17 in the Big Rig, I noted how "fun" his speakers sounded; they captured the life of a performance before all else. Every speaker in his line up does the same. And yet he doesn't sacrifice tones and timbres in the process. His SR17.5 is a master work 2-way monitor, that in my eyes defines what an all out pedestal design is about. In my estimation it is the finest thing he has ever done. The energy and zeal for life found in the designer is evident and in place with the 17.5..... Unlike so many of the mega dollar speakers that grace these pages and others, Silverline products always represent a value without seeming to compromise the musical necessities. You're special Alan."

The Strength then of the SR17.5 strikes me as its ability not to complicate things while still getting the job done. It stays within itself, but within those performance parameters it performs superbly......By using extremely good drivers, and by knowing as much about performance capabilities of those drivers as anyone in audio, Alan has maximized with his box and crossover what those drivers do best, while not pushing them to do anymore than that. Because Alan knows so much about Dynaudio drivers, he has fully realized their out-of-the-box potential to the point that his speakers consistently have a sound that is fresh and involving due to their dynamic qualities and overall transparency. Never will one of Alan's speakers be called dull....
Alan has taken the SR17.5 to the extreme, or at least the theoretical limits of the driver designs in a 2-way.
